An Augusta County man faces charges after a standoff with sheriff’s deputies ended peacefully early Monday.
John David Shover, 45, was arrested after the incident, which began with a call to 911 at 11:14 p.m. Sunday.
The call reported that a male had discharged a firearm inside the residence.
Deputies were able to determine that Shover held a male and female against their will at gunpoint in his residence. Prior to the arrival of the deputies, Shover fired his weapon numerous times.
Once deputies were on location, the SWAT and Negotiations Teams were called out and began the process of reasoning with Shover in an attempt to get him to surrender peacefully. SWAT operators took Shover into custody without incident around 3:30 am on Monday.
Shover was charged with abduction, possession of a firearm by a felon, shooting in an occupied dwelling, brandishing a firearm, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Shover showed no aggression towards law enforcement, and no further shots were fired after the arrival of law enforcement.
