The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office is investigating reports involving shots being fired at three vehicles traveling on North River Road in the Mount Solon area on Saturday.

The first reported incident occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m., but it was not reported to the Sheriff’s Office until later after the second and third occurred.

A second vehicle was shot in the area of Miller’s Sawmill Road and North River Road at approximately 3:20 p.m.

A third incident was reported at approximately 6:45 p.m., also along North River Road.

A large law enforcement presence was in the Mount Solon area throughout the evening and into the late hours of the night.

“We have reason to believe that the weapon used may possibly be a pellet or air rifle,” said Sheriff Donald Smith. “While this may seem less severe than other firearms, it is still a serious and dangerous crime that we are fully committed to solving. We urge anyone with information to come forward immediately.”

Anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the Mount Solon area on Saturday is urged to contact the Sheriff’s Office at 540-245-5333.
