An Augusta County man was arrested on Tuesday on 10 felony child pornography possession charges.

Brian K. Karicofe, 49, of Verona, was taken into custody on Monday after a brief standoff with Augusta County sheriff deputies.

Karicofe was eventually apprehended and is now in custody at Middle River Regional Jail.

His arrest follows an investigation that began on Feb. 7 after the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office received a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children regarding the possible sexual exploitation of minors.

“This case highlights the critical role of partnerships with organizations like NCMEC in protecting children from exploitation,” Sheriff Donald Smith said. “Our deputies acted swiftly and professionally to ensure the safe resolution of the situation and the arrest of the suspect.”

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be obtained as the investigation concludes, according to a news release from the ACSO.
