Augusta County Library hosts series on researching family history

The Augusta County Library will host a three-part series that will provide an Introduction to  Genealogy on Saturdays, March 7, 14 and 21 at 10 a.m.  Each week will focus on a different aspect of researching family history with presenters from the Augusta County Genealogical Society.

Topics will include how to start genealogical research, constructing family trees, accessing Ancestry.com for free, and using archives such as court records, census schedules and military service logs.  Participants will also receive an orientation to the special collections of the Augusta County Library and the Augusta County Genealogical Society Library.

ACL Adult Services Librarian Sarah Skrobis says, “With popular television shows about genealogy and the relocation of the Augusta County Genealogical Society to the Fishersville Library, we are seeing an increase in people who are interested in learning more about their family’s history.  This series will provide a solid starting place and will also showcase the variety of resources available for free at the library.”
