A Staunton man is in custody after he allegedly broke into an Augusta County home and was chased down by the homeowner.

In an attempt to flee, the suspect reportedly jumped through a screen door and tried to steal the homeowner’s vehicle parked outside. The suspect was unsuccessful and fled the property on foot.

The homeowner pursued the suspect and was able to detain him in an adjacent field until deputies arrived on scene and took the male into custody without further incident.
