Devin Smith pitched seven strong innings, and Waynesboro got RBI hits from JoJo Woods and Jacob Hoyle to lift the Generals to a 3-1 win at Rockbridge Tuesday night.
Smith (3-0) gave up a run on four hits with five strikeouts and no walks in his stint. Joseph Lucas pitched a perfect eighth, and Josh Bullock notched his second save of the season with a 1-2-3 ninth.
Jeremy Jansen (0-1) took the tough-luck loss for the Rapids, giving up three runs, two earned, in seven and two-thirds innings.
Hoyle was 3-for-4 to pace the Waynesboro offensive attack. Ryan Breen was 2-for-3 with two walks and scored two of the three Generals runs.
The win improves Waynesboro’s record to 10-4. The Generals remain a game ahead of second-place Harrisonburg in the South Division. Harrisonburg knocked off Staunton 7-6 Tuesday night.
Waynesboro returns home to Kate Collins Field for a two-game homestand that begins Wednesday night with a tilt against the North Division-leading Winchester Royals. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
