The bridge over Stillhouse Creek on Route 693 (Stillhouse Creek Road) in Albemarle County is closed to traffic.

After a report Tuesday morning of damage to the road surface near the bridge, Virginia Department of Transportation bridge inspectors found damage to one of the abutments that support the bridge deck and superstructure.

That damage posed safety concerns for the traveling public, and the bridge was closed.

Stillhouse Creek Road is closed to through traffic at Route 694 (Miller Lake Road) and Route 695 (Burnt Mountain Road).

All private entrances on both sides of the bridge are still accessible.

A plan to repair the bridge is also being developed, but at this time there is no timeframe for repair and reopening the structure.
