VDOT reopened the bridge on Route 641 (Frays Mill Road) over Marsh Run in Albemarle County well ahead of schedule.

The state agency hired Fairfield-Echols of Fishersville to replace the deteriorating 1943 steel and timber structure. Work began Jan. 2 with a Dec. 5 deadline. But the contractor completed the project more than two and a half months early.

The original structure was 14 feet 6 inches wide, and the new steel and timber bridge is 20 feet 4 inches wide. The length of the new bridge is 44 feet 6 inches as opposed to the original bridge which measured only 25 feet long.
