Albemarle County Office of Management and Budget receives Distinguished Budget Presentation Award

albemarleAlbemarle County Office of Management and Budget has been awarded The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada’s (GFOA) Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for its annual budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2015.

To receive this award, the budget document must receive top ratings as a policy document, a financial plan, an operation guide, and as a communication device. This marks the 10th year that Albemarle County has received this honor. Documents submitted to the Budget Awards Program are reviewed by selected members of the GFOA professional staff and by outside reviewers with experience in public-sector budgeting.

The GFOA, headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, established the Distinguished Budget Presentation Awards Program in 1984 to encourage and assist state and local governments to prepare budget documents of the very highest quality that reflect both the guidelines established by the National Advisory Council on State and Local Budgeting and the GFOAs best practices on budgeting and then to recognize individual governments that succeed in achieving that goal. The GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.

“This award reflects the commitment of our Board and staff to meet the highest principles of governmental budgeting,” said County Executive Tom Foley, “We know that accuracy and transparency are critical to building and maintaining trust with our citizens, and Albemarle County is committed to ensuring that we are working in an atmosphere of openness and precision to provide sound stewardship of our community’s resources.”
