Following careful deliberation by the Albemarle County Preschool Oversight Committee consisting of members from Albemarle County Schools, Albemarle County Government, Albemarle Department of Social Services, and MACAA Head Start, it has been determined that the new Bright Stars Program classroom will open in Paul H. Cale Elementary School for the 2015-16 school year.
In an effort to serve the greatest number of children while minimizing the impact on eligible children and families, a Head Start classroom with low enrollment will be moving from Benjamin F. Yancey Elementary to Agnor-Hurt Elementary.
Eligible children from the Yancey district will be invited into the Bright Stars program at Scottsville Elementary with transportation made available by Albemarle County Public Schools.
With the addition of a new Bright Stars classroom and increased class sizes, the Bright Stars Program will have the capacity to serve as many as 187 children, an increase of 28 from the 2015-16 school year.
