The home lost in a Monday fire in Albemarle County was the home of Ned Gallaway, who represents the Rio District on the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors.
The Gallaway family was not home at the time of 4:50 p.m. Monday fire, which spread to two nearby homes in the 2100 block of Loring Drive.
The Albemarle County Fire Marshal’s Office has determined that the fire was accidental in nature.
The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation.
There are no reported human injuries from this incident, though two pet dogs died in the fire, and crews are still searching for pet cats.
“While this has been a deeply personal loss for my family, I want to publicly thank Albemarle County Fire Rescue, including both career and volunteer members, as well as the Albemarle County Police Department and other first responders who acted quickly to contain the fire,” said Gallaway, a Democrat who is the former chair of the Albemarle County School Board, and who has served on the Board of Supervisors since 2018.
“I’ve always been proud to serve this community, and in the wake of this loss, I’ve seen firsthand just how compassionate it is. My family and I are deeply grateful for every person who has reached out in support. We kindly ask for privacy as we continue to process and recover,” Gallaway said.
