Martin, Jerry DeanThe Waynesboro Police Department arrested an Afton man on felony assault charges after he brutally attacked his girlfriend early Friday morning at Parkway Village Apartments.

Jerry Dean Martin, Jr., 32 years old, faces one count of Malicious Wounding.  On February 6 at 2:15 a.m., an officer responded to Augusta Health’s Emergency Department after medical staff notified the Emergency Operations Center about a 25-year-woman whom they were treating who had serious injuries to her face and head.

The victim told the officer that she and Martin had an argument that escalated into a physical confrontation, in which he grabbed her by her hair, threw her to the floor and kicked her in the face and head while wearing work boots.

A friend of the victim was able to intervene and separate the two.  She then drove the victim to Augusta Health.  The victim received stitches for a laceration to her head and was released.

Martin and the victim also have two small children together.

On February 7 at approximately 9 p.m., officers found Martin at another apartment at Parkway Village and arrested him.   Martin was also wanted for court related violations from Albemarle County and Staunton.  He is being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail.
