#3 UVa. baseball hosts JMU Tuesday

uva-jmuThe No. 3-ranked UVa. baseball returns home Tuesday to begin a six-game homestand when it takes on James Madison in a 4 p.m. contest at Davenport Field.

Broadcast Information
A live audio broadcast will be available through a Cavaliers Live subscription on VirginiaSports.com; the game originally was scheduled to have a live video stream but that will not occur because of technical problems.

A link to live statistics (GameTracker) also will be located on VirginiaSports.com. The audio and live stats also can be accessed through the Virginia Sports app, which is available through iTunes.

Virginia-JMU Series
Virginia leads its series with James Madison, 37-25-1. UVa is unbeaten in its last seven games against the Dukes (6-0-1; counting a 2012 tie).

JMU’s last win in the series was a 7-6, 14-inning triumph on April 25, 2007, at Davenport Field. Under Brian O’Connor, Virginia is 10-1-1 against JMU. The teams will play again on April 8 in Harrisonburg.

Virginia Against In-State Foes
Under the current coaching staff (since 2004), the Cavaliers have an 92-16-1 record against in-state opponents, including a 2-1 mark this year. UVa was 9-3 last year against foes from the commonwealth of Virginia in 2013.

Close Games the Norm in Early Portion of Season
Virginia has been tested in its early schedule. Ten of the Cavaliers’ 14 games have been determined by four runs or fewer. All three of the Cavaliers’ games at Duke were decided by one run.

Cavaliers Enjoy Their Home Field
Virginia is 6-1 at home this year, boosting its record to 307-63 (.829) at Davenport Field since 2004. UVa posted a 35-5 mark in 2013 and sold a record number of season tickets prior to the start of the 2014 season.

Virginia has ranked among the top 20 nationally in attendance each of the last four years.

Good Gloves to Start Season
Virginia has started the season strong in the field, committing just eight errors in 14 contests (ACC-best .985 fielding percentage). The Cavaliers tied for seventh in the ACC last year with a .969 fielding percentage while committing 75 errors, the program’s most since 2008 (79).
Noting JMU
JMU is off to a 7-8 start after dropping two of three games in its home series with Seton Hall Saturday through Monday; Seton Hall is ranked No. 22 nationally by collegiate baseball this week.

After a four-hit day Monday, Matt Tenaglia leads the team with a .444 batting average and 20 RBI. Kevin Husum is hitting .418 as the Dukes are batting .289 as a team. JMU owns a 5.74 team ERA as well as a .950 fielding percentage.
