Marcel Simon: Hard work pays off

It’s hard to think that you’re going to get a scholarship to play college basketball in the States when you’re based half a world away in Germany.

That was the situation for Marcel Simon, who viewed his postgrad year at Fishburne as an opportunity to showcase himself to American coaches.

“This is what I’ve been striving for my entire life. And it’s finally come true,” said Simon, a 6’6″ guard who signed with Texas-Pan American to play for coach Ryan Marks next season.

His mother, Sonja, is “excited” for her son and the opportunities that are to come.

“This is really exactly what he’s been dreaming of his entire life. He’s always had basketball on his mind. So now he gets the chance to really live the dream,” Sonja Simon said.
