Longwood women's lax posts win at ODU

The Longwood University women’s lacrosse team beat Old Dominion 15-11 on the road in Norfolk Wednesday afternoon. Senior Kesley Dean|Centreville, Md. (Queen Anne’s) and junior Jess Rudloff|West Chester, Pa. (West Chester East) both scored four goals, handing the Monarchs (1-4) their fourth loss on the season.

Rudloff scored the game’s first goal at 26:15 off the first of Dean’s two assists. Dean then scored her first goal not long after at 24:53. The duo each finished one more chance in the first period before scoring two more in the second, as Rudloff again opened the half with the first goal at 28:32. Dean’s two assists pushes her team-high total to seven and gives her a team second-best point total of 24 just behind senior Cara O’Brien|Arlington (Bishop O’Connell) with 29 on 25 goals – two of which came against the Monarchs – and four assists.

“I think we were able to attack pretty quickly against them and handle their pressure,” said second-year head coach Missy Ackerman. “We just showed a lot of confidence and poise down the stretch that they weren’t able to mount a rally against.”

Longwood went on a six-goal rally that started with 5:28 remaining in the first half off junior Sam Stifler’s|Jarrettsville, Md. (North Harford) third goal before ending at 24:00 on the clock in the second half when O’Brien finished her first goal, putting LU up 12-6. ODU converted five chances after the rally but was unable to overcome the deficit.

Senior Juli Liebig|Centreville, Md. (Queen Anne’s) played a complete game just one save shy of her season-high, as she stopped 14 shots and grabbed a game-high five ground balls in her fifth win this season. Sarah Geary played the game’s entirety for ODU in front of the net and made 11 saves.
