The Longwood University women’s lacrosse team earned a win in its second National Lacrosse Conference (NLC) game of 2011 with a 16-4 decision over Howard on Friday afternoon at the Athletics Complex in Farmville. Senior Kesley Dean|Centreville, Md. (Queen Anne’s) tallied a team-high three points on one goal and two assists to lead the Lancers (6-3) to victory against the Bison (3-6).
Along with Dean, 11 other Lancers tallied goals, four of whom scored twice, including freshmen Emily Whitman|Fairfax (W.T. Woodson) and Mary Barondess|Centreville (Westfield) as well as seniors Amanda Bereznay|Gwynn Oak, Md. (Seton Keough) and Cara O’Brien|Arlington (Bishop O’Connell).
Longwood held Howard to 19 shots and only allowed one goal in the second half as junior Jess Rudloff|West Chester, Pa. (West Chester East) earned her team-high third game-winning score at 16:14 in the first half.
Senior Juli Liebig|Centreville, Md. (Queen Anne’s) played the first 50:39 in goal for Longwood, making seven saves and conceding three goals, while junior Alicia McCarty|Bel Air, Md. (Bel Air) finished the last 9:21, recording one save and allowing one goal in just her second appearance this season.
Desiree Cox scored all four Bison goals in the game and leads Howard with 33 on the year.
