Route 601 (Garth Road) in Albemarle County will be closed to through traffic Saturday morning to accommodate the thousands of people heading to the annual spring Foxfield Races. Between 8 a.m. and noon, traffic will flow west in both lanes of Garth Road from Route 658 (Barracks Farm Road) and the Foxfield race course, just east of Free Union Road.

Traffic congestion in the area will likely persist even after the lane reversal is lifted, especially in the late afternoon as race attendees leave the course. The Virginia Department of Transportation has placed message boards on nearby roads advising of the traffic patterns and alternate routes. The Albemarle County Police Department and Virginia State Police will have numerous officers and troopers in the area to direct traffic.

Drivers should check www.511virginia.org or VDOT’s 511 mobile app for current information about traffic conditions and follow @VaDOTCULP on Twitter for updates.
