EMU women set final home game as Play 4Kay

AFP

The Eastern Mennonite University women’s baskeball team has announced a Play 4Kay (formerly WBCA PinkZone) game for its home basketball game this Saturday against Virginia Wesleyan at 4 p.m.

The designation is done in cooperation with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association as an outreach and fundraising effort to raise breast cancer awareness in college communities and beyond.

As part of the event, EMU will collect donations during halftime of the game against the Marlins.  Donations may also be made on the Play 4Kay website.

Money collected will go to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, which is named for the former North Carolina State women’s basketball coach.  The Fund, in partnership with the WBCA and The V Foundation, is a 501 (c)(3) charitable organization committed to being a part of finding an answer in the fight against women’s cancers through raising money for scientific research, assisting the underserved and unifying people for a common cause.

To date, the Fund has raised over $4.5 million for cancer research.  Due to the unique partnership with The V Foundation, the Kay Yow Cancer Fund may utilize their Scientific Advisory Board to ensure donations support only the cancer research projects with the most potential.  Thus, grant recipients funded by the Kay Yow Cancer Fund have remarkable standing within the scientific community.

As part of this year’s national campaign, the WBCA has announced a goal of $1 million for this year’s Play4Kay game.

The Royals, 18-2 overall and 14-2 in the ODAC, will wear pink t-shirts during pregame warmups.  The game is also the final home contest of the season for EMU and Senior Recognition Day.
