Attorney General Mark Herring announced Thursday that he has fulfilled his commitment of earning certification for the Office of Attorney General by the Virginia Values Veterans (V3) program, an initiative to encourage Virginia employers to implement nationally recognized best practices in recruiting, hiring, and retaining highly-skilled and dependable veterans.Attorney General Herring’s office earned V3 certification following completion of rigorous certification requirements including training, seminars, onsite visits and much more. Attorney General Herring currently employs 26 veterans, guardsmen and women, and former servicemembers and has committed to hiring at least three more this year as part of the Office’s V3 certification.
“I am so proud to earn V3 certification to show our commitment to the men and women that have shown such extraordinary commitment to our country and to public service,” said Attorney General Mark R. Herring. “More than two dozen veterans and former servicemembers currently fill integral roles in the Office of Attorney General as prosecutors, investigators, staff attorneys, and senior members of my leadership team. The honor, integrity, and commitment to public service these men and women bring each and every day make us a more diverse team that can best serve the people of Virginia and their government. I’d encourage any Virginia employer to take the Patriot Pledge, seek V3 certification, and find out what Virginia veterans can contribute to your operation.”

Last year, during remarks to the 2nd Annual Virginia Values Veterans Summit , Attorney General Herring signed “The Patriot Pledge,” committing to increasing the office’s hiring of veterans, and the Department of Defense’s “Statement of Support for the Guard and Reserve,” pledging to support the men and women of the guard and reserve working in the Office of Attorney General.
Attorney General Herring is also utilizing his consumer protection section and its enforcement authority to help meet the unique needs of veterans, active duty personnel, and their families. Because servicemembers are often away from home for long periods of time while on deployment, and because they have a steady, albeit modest, income, active duty servicemembers and their families are attractive targets for predatory lending, identity theft, illegal foreclosure or repossession, and credit card fraud.
