Update: 11:01 p.m. Charlottesville Police Department located Christopher Michael Mitchell earlier this evening after checking on a tip from an alert citizen who saw the media coverage of Mitchell’s story.  Officers assessed him and determined he was not in crisis and able to function independantly; therefore, no other action was taken.  His family was notified of his whereabouts.  The Waynesboro Police Department no longer considers him a missing person and will clear him from NCIC/VCIN.

Original Story: The Waynesboro Police Department is requesting assistance from the public to locate a missing Waynesboro man.  Christopher Michael Mitchell, aka Mikey, 19 years old, was last seen by his family on the morning of August 15 at their residence on North Bath Avenue.

Mitchell left on his own with only a small amount of cash but no cellphone nor vehicle. His father reported him missing to the Police Department on August 19.

Mitchell is high-functioning autistic and has oppositional defiance disorder.  Police believe that it is his choice to stay away from home and not communicate with his family.  He is likely still in the area.

Mitchell is a white male who is 5’8”, 125 lbs. with blonde hair and blue eyes.  He wears eyeglasses.  He was last seen wearing a white shirt with brown skulls on it and blue jeans.

A missing person’s report has been filed with the Waynesboro Police Department and he has been entered into the national database, NCIC/VCIN.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Waynesboro Police Department (540) 942-6675.
