Interstate 64 lane closures in Augusta County Aug. 3-8

The Virginia Department of Transportation has scheduled overnight and early-morning lane closures on Interstate 64 eastbound in Augusta County during the week of August 3-8. These alternating lane closures from mile marker 93 to 89 are for shoulder work and pavement marking. This work is part of the reconstruction of I-64 exit 91 at Route 285 near Fishersville.

Drivers on eastbound I-64 can expect left or right lane closures as follows:

• Monday, August 3, from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. Tuesday morning.
• Wednesday through Saturday mornings, August 5-8, from 1 a.m. until 7 a.m.

All work is weather permitting.

When contractors finish the Route 285 (Tinkling Spring Road) project, the road will have four lanes for just over one mile, between Route 636/640 and Route 935 (Expo Road). A new bridge over I-64 will accommodate the additional through lanes and dual left-turn lanes at both on-ramps. Additional turn lanes at the Route 636/640 intersection will handle traffic from the nearby hospital complex. Route 285 will have a shared-use path for pedestrians and bicyclists.

The Commonwealth Transportation Board awarded Shirley Contracting a $21 million design-build contract in September 2012. The company is performing the work in three phases, starting with construction of the new bridge over I-64 and widening the roadway to the west side of Route 285.
