UVA is the #2 seed in the East Regional in the 2015 NCAA Tournament, and the Cavs, the ACC regular-season champs, will face #15 seed Belmont in a second-round game in Charlotte on Friday.
Virginia (29-3) looked to be a #1 seed as far back as December, spending the last 11 weeks at #2 or #3 in the Associated Press Top 25, but losses in two of their last three games, a last-second loss at #13 Louisville on March 7, and a 71-67 loss to #19 North Carolina in the ACC Tournament semifinals on Friday, dropped the ‘Hoos to the two line.
Belmont (22-10) is the automatic qualifier from the Ohio Valley Conference. The Bruins upset #25 Murray State in the OVC Tournament title game to earn the ticket to the Big Dance.
The other matchup in the Charlotte bracket in the East Regional pits #7 seed Michigan State (23-11) against #10 seed Georgia (21-11).
Duke (29-4), the ACC regular-season runner-up, which like Virginia also lost in the ACC Tournament semifinals, was awarded a #1 seed, in the South Regional.
