uva-logo-new2boston-college2Boston College led by as many as five early in the second half, but second-ranked UVA closed the game on a 33-13 scoring run to knock off the Eagles, 66-51, on Saturday.

Virginia (17-0, 5-0 ACC) led by three at the half, 25-22, and fell behind 38-33 with 14:28 to go on a layup by Olivier Hanlan. Freshman Isaiah Wilkins answered on the next Cavs’ possession with a 15-foot jumper, propelling a 10-0 run over the next 5:57 that gave UVA a 43-38 lead with 8:31 left on a Darion Atkins jumper.

A pair of threes by point guard London Perrantes provided breathing room, the second pushing the lead to eight at the 4:47 mark, and a Perrantes layup on the next Virginia possession gave the ‘Hoos their first double-digit lead on the day.

Boston College (8-8, 0-4 ACC) made just three of their last 15 shots from the field after starting the second half on a 12-6 run that saw the Eagles make four of their first five.

Virginia got 20 points from Malcolm Brogdon, who shot 5-of-10 from the field. Anthony Gill had 11 points and 10 rebounds.

Leading scorer Justin Anderson did not make a shot from the field, but still finished with eight points, connecting on eight of his nine free-throw attempts, including all three after being fouled on a three-point attempt with the lead at 46-42 at the 6:55 mark.

Perrantes had eight points and six assists. Wilkins scored six points and pulled down four rebounds off the bench.

UVA shot 42.9 percent from the floor (21-of-49) and was 6-of-18 (33.3 percent) from three-point range.

The Cavs won the rebounding battle 35-20.

Olivier Hanlan had 18 points and six assists for Boston College, which got 15 points from Patrick Heckmann.

Boston College shot 39.5 percent (17-of-43) from the floor and 33.3 percent (5-of-15) from three-point range.
