The Waynesboro Police Department has arrested an Augusta County man on multiple charges from three other jurisdictions after a brief standoff at a city residence earlier today.
Joshua Daniel Isaksen, 32, was wanted by the Sheriff’s Departments of Augusta County, Nelson County and Rockbridge County since Nov. 3.
At approximately 4:15 p.m. Thursday, the Waynesboro Emergency Operations Center received a call from a 20-year-old Waynesboro woman who said that Isaksen was in her residence in the 1300 block of Shenandoah Avenue. The caller indicated that she was in the residence with Isaksen and her 3-year-old daughter. She also appeared frightened and made it sound that she was being held against her will.
Aided by the Augusta County Sheriff’s Department and other callers, officers were able to determine that the woman was Isaksen’s girlfriend. In addition, Isaksen is known to carry firearms and has a history of violence.
Waynesboro police officers and deputies from the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office maintained surveillance of the residence while a search warrant was obtained and the Department’s SWAT and Negotiations teams were assembled. Just after 7 p.m., the Police Department and Sheriff’s Department blocked off Shenandoah Avenue in front of the residence. Using a public address system, a negotiator contacted Isaksen and requested his surrender.
After approximately three minutes, Isaksen’s girlfriend opened the front door and exited the residence. Almost immediately afterwards, Isaksen appeared at the door holding the three year old boy, who was clad only in a diaper, and surrendered. He did not have a weapon in his possession.
Isaksen is being held without bond at Middle River Regional Jail.
The outstanding charges on Isaksen are as follows:
- Augusta County – 2 Circuit Court Capiases for failure to appear on November 22, 2013;
- Nelson County – 2 counts burglary, 2 counts grand larceny (all felonies);
- Rockbridge County – felony destruction of property, misdemeanor assault & battery.
