economic-forecast-headerThe Northern Virginia Business Political Action Committee (NOVABizPAC), the political action committee of the Fairfax County Chamber of Commerce (Fairfax Chamber), announced its endorsements for Virginia’s statewide races on Thursday.  Using the Fairfax Chamber’s legislative agenda as their guide, NOVABizPAC trustees spent considerable time interviewing and evaluating the statewide candidates for office.  As a result of their review, NOVABizPAC made the following endorsements:

Governor of Virginia: NOVABizPAC endorses Terry McAuliffe for Governor.  NOVABizPAC trustees voted to endorse Mr. McAuliffe based on his pro-business policy positions and proposals.

“In terms of the priorities of the Northern Virginia business community, Mr. McAuliffe’s policy positions and proposals closely align with the Fairfax Chamber’s legislative agenda,” said Jim Corcoran, Fairfax Chamber president and CEO and NOVABizPAC trustee.   “Mr. McAuliffe was a major supporter of Governor McDonnell’s landmark transportation funding legislation and a consistent supporter of rail to Dulles.  He has also vocalized his opposition to mandatory project labor agreements (PLAs) and he has vowed to veto any attempt to chip away at Virginia’s longstanding right to work laws.”

Lieutenant Governor of Virginia: NOVABizPAC endorses State Senator Ralph Northam. NOVABizPAC trustees voted to endorse Senator Northam based on his record and experience in the Virginia Senate.

“The trustees of NOVABizPAC voted to endorse Senator Northam because of his experience serving in the Senate and his support for the Fairfax Chamber’s legislative priorities,” said NOVABizPAC Chair Scott McGeary.   “We have faith in his ability to lead the State Senate given his experience and service to the Commonwealth.”

Attorney General of Virginia: NOVABizPAC endorses State Senator Mark Herring.  The trustees of NOVABizPAC voted to endorse Senator Herring because of his experience serving Northern Virginia and his support for the Fairfax Chamber’s legislative agenda and priorities.

“Senator Herring has served the Northern Virginia business community well in the State Senate,” said McGeary.  “He has been a leader on a number of key business issues important to the Fairfax Chamber including his commitment to Virginia’s right to work laws, Governor McDonnell’s landmark transportation funding plan and economic development initiatives”

Since 2002, the Fairfax Chamber’s NOVABizPAC has interviewed and supported candidates for the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, the Virginia General Assembly and for statewide office who champion issues of importance to our community.

“As Chairman, I, and the Fairfax Chamber, stand by the endorsements made by NOVABizPAC.” said Mark Moore, chairman of the Fairfax Chamber.  “I’d like to thank the trustees of our NOVABizPAC for their thorough review of the candidates’ records and for being faithful stewards of the process we have established for making statewide endorsements. Most of all, I’d like to thank all of the candidates for their willingness to enter the arena, the valuable time they set aside for our interview process and their commitment to public service. We look forward to working with all of the Commonwealth’s elected officials and policymakers in ensuring Virginia remains a top state for business.”
