The Bridgewater College Pinion Players will present a student- directed production, “God of Carnage,” Sept. 26-29 in Cole Hall at Bridgewater College.
Performances are at 8 p.m. Sept. 26 – 28 and at 3 p.m. on Sept. 29. A talk-back and reception will be held following the Friday evening performance. Tickets are $9 for adults and $7 for seniors and non-BC students and may be reserved by calling 540-828-5631.
The play, written by Yasmina Reza and translated by Christopher Hampton, is directed by James E. Custer, a junior English major with a minor in theater, from Dayton, Va.
This production contains strong language and is recommended for mature audiences.
A playground altercation between 11-year-old boys brings together two sets of parents for a meeting to resolve the matter. At first, diplomatic niceties are observed, but as the meeting progresses tensions emerge and the gloves come off, leaving the couples with more than just their liberal principles in tatters.
Winner of the 2009 Tony Award for Best Play, “God of Carnage” takes an unflinching and painfully funny look at parents behaving badly.
Cast members include:
- Joseph M. Kaiser, a freshman English major with a minor in communication studies, from Orange, Va.;
- Kai Sutherland, a sophomore global studies major with a minor in theater, from Chesapeake, Va.; and
- Dominee A. McNerney, a sophomore liberal studies major, from Powhatan, Va.
- Rebecca M. Haines, a senior history major with a minor in theater from Taneytown, Md., is stage manager.
- Morgan Elkins, a senior communication studies major with a minor in theater from Cloverdale, Va., is in charge of costumes.
Bridgewater College is a private, four-year liberal arts college located in the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Founded in 1880, it was the state’s first private, coeducational college. Today, Bridgewater College is home to more than 1,800 undergraduate students.
