Day of Caring Volunteers Beautify, Feed and Create at SSC

AFP

ssc-headerThe first group came to dig, and dig they did! Twenty-five 40-pound bags of soil were spread on the side yard at Staunton Senior Center. Heat did not deter the three BB&T employees. They also spread 44 yards of grass seed, then topped it with a seed cover that makes the side yard look like it’s ready for Christmas! They also worked with members to re-plant some flowers in the raised beds. The whole side got major spiffed up!

Eight other volunteers, from United Way’s board of directors and the News Leader office, delivered meals to nearly 70 homebound individuals.

Another three folks, volunteering from Ntelos’ main office in Waynesboro, spent an hour with the members creating crafts for the upcoming Holiday Bazaar.

Finally, UWGA’s intern created two complete sandwich board-style signs with the Center’s name, to be put along Churchville and Thornrose avenues. Many people, including today’s volunteers, have had a difficult time finding SSC; so until a permanent sign is constructed, we will be using these signs.

SSC members and staff sincerely thank all of today’s volunteers who gave their time and energy to make improvements at the Center. It truly was a day of caring!
