The Wilson Memorial High School Music Department presents The Wedding Singer, produced through special arrangements with MTI, Musical Theatre International. Scheduled performances will take place at Wilson Memorial High School in the auditorium on Friday, April 19th at 7 p.m., Saturday, April 20th at 7 p.m. and Sunday, April 21st in the afternoon at 3 p.m. Tickets are $5.00 for students at the door, general seating at the door $8.00 and reserved tickets for advanced sales are $10.00.

The Wedding Singer is a musical that has been adapted from the classic romantic comedy film based on the New Line Cinema film written by Tim Herlihy starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore that left audiences laughing at the human frailties that make use all human. In addition, the show gives us “blast into the past” with its many 1980s references. The show is also filled with those crazy 1980s outfits and big hairdos. This fast-paced, high-energy show has something for everybody.
The Wedding Singer follows Robbie Hart (Austin Shumate) lead vocalist of a popular wedding band whose other band members are George and Sammy (Brennen Gilbert and Andrew Schmidt). Newlyweds all over New Jersey have had memorable wedding days thanks to Robbie and his band, but when it comes to Robbie’s own special wedding day…it turns out to be a complete disaster. Left at the altar by his fiancé, Linda, (Emily Milham and Sessilie Tacket) who is disappointed with Robbie only being a wedding singer, and wishing that he “had the fame of Mötley Crüe,” Robbie finds himself spiraling. As Robbie falls into the depths of bitterness and despair, suddenly a ray of hope enters his life. Enter Julia Sullivan (Emily Milham and Bailie Singleton), a waitress who dreams of being married to her Wall Street stock-broker boyfriend, Glen (Josh Stewart) who is a real cad. Little does Robbie know, but his whole world is about to change as Julia lifts him out of his darkness.
Rounding out the cast are Holly (Allison Mitchell), Julia’s cousin, Angie (Zoe Chetlin), Julia’s mother, Rosie (Clarice Ellinger) Robbie’s grandmother and an incredible ensemble (members of the Singing Sergeants and others) of wedding guests, brides and grooms, and others on the Jersey shore as well as an array cameos by 1980’s superstars. Musical direction by Abby Hostetter and acting direction by Stephen Winslow.
