Augusta County: DEQ to release study for Back Creek, Eidson Creek, Jennings Branch

Chris Graham

virginia deq Virginia DEQ is hosting a public meeting on its water quality study for Back Creek, Eidson Creek and Jennings Branch in Augusta County.

The meeting is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 26, at 5:30 p.m. at the Middlebrook Community Center.

The Total Maximum Daily Load study from DEQ identifies sediment as the primary pollutant affecting the health of these streams. A TMDL establishes the maximum amount of a pollutant a waterbody can receive while still meeting water quality standards, along with targets for reducing pollutant loads.

The meeting will provide an opportunity to learn more about the water quality issues, the study’s findings and the path forward for addressing them.

It will also begin a 30-day public comment period on the draft report.

The draft report will be available on DEQ’s website following the meeting.

For additional information from previous meetings that DEQ held in May, June, and September, visit DEQ’s webpage for TMDLs Under Development and click to expand the Back Creek, Eidson Creek and Jennings Branch section.
