Catching up with … West Virginia, which has now lost three straight games

West Virginia fans didn’t like me writing and saying after WVU beat Virginia that their team would be lucky to win six games this year.

Ahem.

Today’s final from Morgantown: Arizona 52, West Virginia 31.

Make that three straight losses for the Mountaineers, who are now 3-3 on the season.

Going into this one, WVU defensive coordinator Zac Alley had called his unit “the worst defense in college football” because it had given up an average of 593 yards per game in its back-to-back losses to Oklahoma State and Iowa State.

Today, the ‘Neers got touched up for a mere 482.

Virginia gained … 354, with that total helped out by a garbage-time TD drive.

West Virginia QB Michael Hawkins Jr., who I said after the beatdown in Charlotte won’t survive the first round of cuts in the Arena League once he’s done in college, was 11-of-28 for 219 yards through the air – bad mechanics.

That team of clowns was the first to punk Tony Elliott’s $40 million roster.

The second, Florida State, which embarrassed Virginia in a 38-7 smackdown last week, holding the ‘Hoos to 205 total yards, gave up 537 yards in a 44-20 loss at Louisville last night, to also fall to 3-3 on the season.
