The Albemarle County Community Development Department has begun implementing recommendations from an assessment of its operations initiated by county government late last year.

“This assessment gives us a framework for improving how we serve residents, businesses, and applicants,” said Bart Svoboda, the director of the Community Development Department, which has appointed an interim zoning administrator to oversee the zoning division and lead zoning modification efforts, one of the key recommendations from the report, which was prepared by the San Mateo, Calif.,-based Matrix Consulting Group.

Recruitment is under way for department vacancies, including the building official, deputy director and inspectors.

Additional work will focus on staff training and expanded use of the EP&L system to monitor progress and provide clearer information to the public.

“Our priorities are timely service, consistent processes, staff development, and clear performance expectations,” Svododa said.

The final report and frequently asked questions are available here.
