The Rockley Family Foundation will hold the James Madison University Musical Instrument Sale beginning on Thursday and running through Saturday at the Forbes Center for the Performing Arts on the JMU campus.

Musical instruments provided to music departments or otherwise made available will be sold at a significant discount from manufacturers’ retail pricing.

Proceeds directly support the JMU School of Music.

A large selection of grand pianos, baby grands, digital player grands, vertical (upright) pianos, hybrid pianos, digital pianos, violins, violas and cellos will be available, ranging from starter to professional level and including instruments from makers such as Steinway & Sons, Yamaha, Bösendorfer, Seiler, Roland and Italia Violins.

Most instruments are less than one year old, include a 5–10-year service contract, and are tuned and ready to enjoy.

“Families in the Shenandoah Valley rarely get a chance to see this many fine instruments in one room, and every purchase helps the JMU School of Music,” said Tobin Rockley, director/president of the Rockley Family Foundation, a nonprofit that provides the donated use of musical instruments, the outright donation of musical instruments and educational materials, and monetary resources that fund outreach support and scholarships.

“Whether someone is buying a first piano for a child or a concert grand for a lifetime, they leave with a great instrument and the knowledge that they supported music education,” Rockley said.

Private appointments are available Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and give buyers priority selection and price reductions before the public sale opens. Appointments can be scheduled at rockleyfamilyfoundation.org/JMU or by calling or texting 540-902-8225.

The final sale day, Saturday, is open to the public from 2-5 p.m. with no appointment needed.

Delivery and special no-interest financing are available on-site. In most cases, a substantial portion of a purchase may be considered a charitable contribution to the Rockley Family Foundation and may be tax deductible; buyers should consult their own tax adviser regarding the deductibility of any contribution.
