Here we go, with Augusta County Sheriff Donald Smith throwing one of his Black cops under the bus again.

“Recently, a video was posted featuring an employee of the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office. In this video, the employee was lip syncing to a song which contained language that is inconsistent with Sheriff’s Office standards,” Smith wrote in a post to the office’s Facebook page on Tuesday night, distancing himself from a video featuring one of his deputies, Shamica Spears, which he acknowledged that he approved, “at the request of the business owner to further community outreach.”

“However, the musical content and language was not known when initially approved, and my first viewing of the video was when it was posted to social media,” Smith wrote.

The video features Spears and a group of people from, it appears, the local Spirit Halloween store in Waynesboro, lip-syncing to the Lil Wayne song “Mrs. Officer,” which has Weezy fantasizing about being “stopped by a lady cop,” and “got me thinkin’ I can date a cop.”

The verse in the brief video ends with a nod to the infamous NWA song, “F— the Police,” albeit with a different take on what those three words mean, given the observation about how the cop’s “uniform fit her so tight,” which made the rapper feel good about her reading him his rights.

It’s a fun song, and the people making comments on the Facebook page on the post are not having it with Smith giving in to whichever Karen it was who called to complain.

A sampling:

  • Natalie Sandridge: “Poor Shamica can’t catch a break. It brought a huge smile to my face knowing we have an officer out there trying to engage with her community. We need more like her!”
  • Hailey Shrader: “One of the biggest things I took away from that video was how cool, relatable, and genuinely human she came across. It showed the person behind the badge and created a positive connection with the community. To me, that’s exactly the kind of thing that helps people see law enforcement not just as officers, but as real people who are part of the community, too. I think that kind of connection should be encouraged and supported, not criticized.”
  • Arynn Robbins: “She gives me hope and respect for police officers. I also hopes she gets hired by people who will actually appreciate her when the snowflake brigade gets her fired. I’m not sure when tiktok videos became a bigger issue than school shootings. It doesn’t matter because it’s pathetic. Anyone who thinks this is an issue needs a reality check.”
  • Hailey Thomas: “I saw the video, and I didn’t see anything wrong with it. If anything it was a good insight as to how you guys are still human with feelings and personalities. Ignore the boomer.”

Smith is decidedly not going to “ignore the boomer.”

“I hold the Sheriff’s Office to a high standard, and I apologize for the inappropriate content. We are currently reviewing protocol to ensure this will not be repeated. Thank you to those who called and brought this to our attention,” he wrote on the post.
