The Charlottesville Low-Income Housing Coalition is hosting “Whose city? A community panel about luxury and affordable housing” on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Jefferson School (233 4th St. NW, Charlottesville).
Panelists will discuss how racial inequity relates to housing, and the impact of luxury development on community stability.
The panelists include:
- Shamaal Sheppard, co-author of “Abundance for Who? Housing Access and Affordability in High-Growth Metropolitan Areas,” a 2026 report by the Georgetown Law School Poverty and Inequality Center.
- James Bryant, a long-time community leader who serves as vice president of the 10th and Page Neighborhood Association
- Zyahna Bryant, who serves on the Charlottesville School Board, is active with the 10th and Page Neighborhood Association, and is deputy political director with Tom Perriello for Congress.
- Latricia Giles, executive director of the Charlottesville Public Housing Association of Residents.
The event will be moderated by Terry Tyree, the founder of the Charlottesville Community Resilience Center.
