A shocking story concerning a ruling Republican family from Ohio emerged last week. Congressman Max Miller’s ex-wife has said that he hurled her against the wall, threw a pot of scalding water on her, and broke their daughter’s collarbone.

In January of this year, the child was hospitalized with bruises and trauma around her groin and thighs. Though CPS and law enforcement became involved, no charges were filed. Miller blamed daycare. That case was dismissed, and a bitter custody battle continues.

The toddler’s injuries remain unexplained. She and her mother are currently in hiding from Miller.

On Aug. 3, Republican U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno denounced Miller, saying he should not be allowed to serve in Congress. Miller is Moreno’s former son-in-law.

One Republican leader actually condemning another for monstrous behavior rarely, if ever, happens, so should we applaud Moreno for this? Maybe, until you find out he knew about the abuse accusations from his own daughter for two years before speaking out. And maybe, until you find out that Moreno only spoke out when it was too late to remove Miller from the ballot in the 2026 midterms.

Because when you’re a Republican politician, keeping the GOP in power is far more important than the safety of family.

While a few representatives and Ohio’s other senator have condemned Miller, most are silent. House Speaker Mike Johnson says let the process play out. Donald Trump said, “I hope he’s able to work it out. I feel badly for him”

Not the first time our president has shown his affinity for abusers.

Johnson has deferred to the House Ethics Committee, which has not acted against Miller. The independent Office of Congressional Conduct also will not say if it is investigating; it remains silent.

Republican leaders, however, will wholeheartedly criticize some people.

For example, on July 29, Sen. Moreno viciously attacked American hero Dr. Anothy Fauci – who is 85 years old – during a Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee hearing. Fauci’s expertise in fighting infectious diseases helped lead the country during COVID.

The chair of the committee, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), a noted conspiracy theorist and crank, believes that Fauci helped fund the creation of the COVID virus in a lab in China and mismanaged the epidemic – hence the hearing.

Dr. Fauci was laid into by Paul and Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley, but the worst attack came from Bernie Moreno.

Dripping with venom, he yelled, “Who the fuck did you think you were? … I hope you answer for your crimes!” What Sen. Moreno called “crimes” were the COVID safety precautions put in place by states and employers.

Not one single Republican has condemned this language and lack of respect toward a retired and elderly life-long public servant.

Only a handful of Republicans condemn Max Miller.

Now Rand Paul’s committee has recommended that Dr. Fauci be held in contempt of Congress.

Max Miller walks freely and continues his bid for re-election.
