Jim Bishop

Community Mennonite Church of Harrisonburg has called Jennifer Davis Sensenig as lead pastor on its pastoral team.
Davis Sensenig received a 96 percent vote of affirmation to the full-time position. She will join team members Meg Wightman, pastor of community life; and Jason Gerlach, pastor of youth ministry; along with pastoral elders Tina Beachy and Paul Longacre.

Davis Sensenig most recently served five years as associate pastor at Pasadena (Calif.) Mennonite Church. Before that, she was solo pastor at Cedar Falls (Iowa) Mennonite Church, 1998-2003.

She graduated with honors from Carleton College, Northfield, Minn., with a BA in religion and received a master of divinity degree with a biblical studies concentration from Associated Mennonite Biblical Seminary, Elkhart, Ind. While in seminary, she was pastoral intern at Fellowship of Hope in Elkhart.

The Minnesota native grew up in a Baptist General Conference Church and was baptized in 1984. She joined the Mennonite Church in 1996.

She has wide experience in Mennonite Church organizations, including district elder with Pacific Southwest Mennonite Conference, 2004-2008 and board member and currently vice chair of Mennonite Education Agency (MEA). She has contributed to a forthcoming book, “Jesus and Mission,” done teaching-preaching assignments in a host of settings and written articles for churchwide publications.

Davis Sensenig is married to Kent Davis Sensenig, a native of Akron, Pa., and 1992 graduate of Eastern Mennonite University. He is working toward a PhD degree in Christian ethics from Fuller Theological Seminary, Pasadena.

The couple has been active for many years in sustainable agriculture projects, working the past season at Common Harvest Farm, a community-supported enterprise along the St. Croix River in Western Wisconsin.

Community Mennonite Church, founded in 1972, is a member of the Harrisonburg District of Virginia Mennonite Conference. Attendance averages 200, and church membership is renewable annually.
