PPP: Kaine holds narrow lead in Senate race

AFP

A new poll from Public Policy Polling gives Democrat Tim Kaine a narrow one-point lead over Republican George Allen in the tight Virginia Senate race.

Kaine was at 47 percent in the poll, with Allen at 46 percent. The lead is within the margin of error for the poll.

The race was tied at 46 percent in an August poll from PPP.

Kaine leads among women, ethnic minorities and younger voters; Allen leads among men, white voters and older voters.

Independents give Allen a slight 44 percent-43 percent edge.

Comment on the poll from Kaine campaign spokesperson Brandi Hoffine: “George Allen’s allies have spent millions on false, negative ads against Tim Kaine, and it hasn’t impacted the race. We’re going to keep relying on Governor Kaine’s forward-focused plan to strengthen the economy and put Americans back to work and the incredible grassroots enthusiasm we’re seeing all across Virginia to win in November.”
