An early-morning crash on Interstate 95 in Richmond continues to snarl traffic after a crash involving a box truck and a tractor trailer.

All southbound lanes are currently closed as crews work to clear the roadway and remove approximately 40,000 pounds of steel beams which were spilled across the highway.

According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, traffic is being detoured at exit 79. The northbound left lane and shoulder are also closed.

The crash occurred at 6:39 a.m. in the southbound lanes near the Belvedere exit, according to Virginia State Police.

Preliminary information indicates a box truck struck the center Jersey wall and came to rest against it. The tractor trailer overturned as a result of the crash.

The driver of the box truck was transported to VCU Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.
