Schola Cantorum to present two Christmas concerts, including a first-ever show in Staunton

Schola CantorumSchola Cantorum of Waynesboro will present their annual Christmas Concert in both Staunton and Waynesboro this year.

The concert, entitled “What Sweeter Music,” will be at Central Methodist Church in Staunton on Saturday at 7 p.m., and at First Baptist Church in Waynesboro on Sunday at 5 p.m.

Directed by Adam Phillips, the 65-voice chorus will sing familiar Christmas carols, two settings of “Ave Maria,” “O Magnum Mysterium” and “Hodie Christus Natus Est” by Francis Poulenc, “What Sweeter Music” by John Rutter and more.

The concert will end with a congregational sing of the “Hallelujah Chorus.”

Admission is free, with a free-will offering collected at intermission.

A reception will follow the concerts.

Both churches are handicapped-accessible.

Schola Cantorum is a volunteer group of both professional musicians and life-long singers. They meet every Tuesday from September through May and perform twice a year. Auditions are held in August and September.
