A foot of snow possible in the Valley? More winter weather on the way Friday

If you love the snow, you are in luck, because it looks like another round of winter weather is headed to Virginia.

If you’ve been following the forecast, more of the white stuff is expected on Friday, but don’t listen to the hype calling for a foot or more, at least according to one AccuWeather expert.

In the Shenandoah Valley, it’s more likely to be a coating to two inches, said Thomas Kines, senior meteorologist.

The storm will cross into Virginia Friday night. Those living in the West Virginia mountains will see anywhere from three to six inches of snow, “maybe more,” he said.

The snowfall will extend to the Appalachians from Kentucky and West Virginia, to Virginia and Maryland. Drivers and airline passengers in the Northeast this weekend should be prepared for one or more periods of snow that could lead to travel delays.

“The question is how much moisture can make it across the mountains,” Kines told AFP. “The Virginia mountains should pick up at least few inches then lesser amounts as one heads east.

“And that foot of snow someone is talking about? Wow! A lot would really have to go wrong or right, depending on your point of view, for a foot of snow to accumulate in the Valley.”

The Valley saw accumulating snowfall last Friday and again on Monday, making this the third storm in a week. Temperatures are forecast to reach a high of 33 degrees on Friday.
