ACC athletics directors met on Monday and quickly approved a scheduling model for football that adds a ninth conference game and requires a 10th game against a Power 4 nonconference opponent.

The model still needs to be formally adopted by the faculty athletics representatives for the 17 football-member schools, per a press release from the ACC.

“This positions the ACC as one of only two leagues committed to having every team annually play a minimum of 10 games against Power 4 teams,” ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips said in a statement. “There will be additional discussions and more details to be determined, but today’s decision showcases the commitment and leadership of our ADs in balancing what is best for strengthening the conference and their respective programs.”

The new schedule model is not likely to take effect until the 2027 season, at the earliest.
