How web-savvy is the Valley?

Column by Chris Graham

It might just be me – but it does seem to me that it only makes sense to have a website up and running if you’re, say, running a business, or running a political campaign, or running a nonprofit, right?

Which brings me to this observation – Harrisonburg and Rockingham seem to have it all figured out as far as web presence goes.

I busied myself last week with putting together The Scene – our page of links to basically everything that I could find as far as local government, local schools, local dining and entertainment options and everything else is concerned – and in the course of so doing, I noted how many entities in the Greater Augusta and Greater Rockbridge areas that I would have just assumed would have a website up and running didn’t.

And then I got to Harrisonburg and Rockingham – where it seems that everybody who is anybody has not only a working site up, but the breadth of information that is made available on these sites is laudatory.

Take some time this week to peruse The Scene and let me know what you think.

In the meantime, I think I’m going to have to make it a personal mission to get more people and organizations on the web – and effectively on the web.

I mean, here we are trying to build an online community – but can we do that if only a handful of people participate?
