Greene County: Stanardsville man dies from injuries in single-vehicle crash

A Stanardsville man died in a single-vehicle accident on Dyke Road in Greene County on Monday.

Merlyn W. Koontz, 74, of Standardsville, was partially ejected and died at the scene of the 2:14 p.m. crash, according to Virginia State Police.

Koontz was driving a 1997 Toyota Tacoma heading southbound on Dyke Road, near the intersection with Mount Olivet Road, when the vehicle went off of the right side of the road and struck a tree.

Koontz was not wearing a seatbelt, according to VSP.

The crash remains under investigation.
