If you live in a flood-prone area in Virginia, West Virginia and Maryland, experts are recommending you prepare now for the possibility of flash flooding.
Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected this evening. Some thunderstorms will contain heavy rainfall, with one to three inches possible within an hour or two. Storms may also hit the same areas causing the possibility for locally higher amounts around five inches within a few hours.
As a result, the National Weather Service issued a flood watch for portions of all three states. The flood watch remains in effect until 11 p.m. tonight.

- Albemarle County
- Augusta County
- Highland County
- Nelson County
- Rockingham County
West Virginia
- Grant
- Mineral
- Pendleton
Maryland
- Allegany
- Garrett
A severe weather threat was also issued for the potential of flash flooding through 8 p.m.
NWS recommends anyone in the watch area be alert for flood warnings, and be prepared to take action if flooding occurs.
Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying areas is possible. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Low-water crossings may be flooded.
