Senate campaign focus on senior issues in NoVa

The U.S. Senate race was going hot and heavy in Northern Virginia Wednesday, with Republican George Allen continuing his “Send a Message” statewide tour and Democrat Tim Kaine’s campaign pressing Allen on Social Security.

Allen was joined by Prince William Board of Supervisors Chairman Corey Stewart in Woodbridge, where the duo put their focus on the impact of government regulations.

“In the last three years, I’ve heard from many residents and local businesses how Washington’s tax and regulate agenda is affecting their lives and businesses,” said Stewart. “Now it’s time to direct our message to Washington by voting for George Allen on June 12. We can’t afford to sit on the sidelines and let others choose our future for us. George Allen is the right leader for Virginia in the U.S. Senate, and I’m encouraging all Prince William County residents to join me in supporting him on June 12.”

June 12 is the date for the Republican Senate primary where the heavy favorite Allen still needs to pull out a win in a four-candidate field. Kaine is waiting for the fall campaign, and his campaign put its focus on Wednesday on Allen and Social Security to highlight a photo op featuring Allen at the Woodbridge Senior Center.

“George Allen’s willingness to continually gut services and programs important to seniors should worry anyone in or near retirement. Whether he’s voting to shift Social Security dollars to private accounts or enthusiastically praising the Ryan plan to dismantle Medicare, it’s clear that George Allen will continue to put partisan politics and his own reelection interests ahead of  the interests of older Virginians,” Kaine campaign press secretary Lily Adams said.
