James Madison sophomore Amy Roguski (Sykesville, Md./Liberty) scored four second-half goals to help the Dukes pull away for a 12-8 win at Old Dominion in Colonial Athletic Association women’s lacrosse Sunday afternoon.

JMU, the defending two-time CAA champion, remained undefeated in CAA play at 5-0 and clinched a spot in the upcoming (April 27 & 29) four-team CAA Tournament.  The Dukes, who are tied for first place in the league with Towson, have a 9-5 overall record.

Sunday’s victory was the fifth straight for the Dukes.

Old Dominion has a 4-11 overall record and is 1-4 in the CAA.

JMU seniors Monica Zabel (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) and Ashley Kimener (Oakton, Va./Oakton) each added two goals, and Zabel broke the JMU career assist record with her 110th.  The record-breaking pass came with on a goal by redshirt freshman Kaci Starkloff (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) with 6:59 left in the first half.

Zabel took sole possession of the record she had shared with Megan Riley (’99), who had 109 assists in 72 career games.  Zabel’s record came in just 69 career contests.  She increased her career total to 111 with another assist in the second half.

JMU never trailed in Sunday’s game but was leading only 5-4 when the Dukes ran off a string of six unanswered goals to take an insurmountable 11-5 lead with 4:23 remaining.  Roguski scored four of those, including three straight on free-position shots.

Statistical leaders for the Dukes included senior Caitlin McHugh (Westminster, Md./Mercy) with a game-high seven draw controls.  McHugh, Starkloff and freshman goalkeeper Schylar Healy (Eldersburg, Md./Liberty) also each finished with two ground balls.  Senior Cally Chakrian (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) had three draw controls and two caused turnovers.

ODU held a 27-24 advantage on shots but JMU had 18 draw controls to only four for ODU.

Healy tied her career high with 13 saves, while ODU goalie Sarah Geary had seven stops.
