A pair of 10-1 second-half runs got the UVA Women’s Basketball team over the hump in an 80-64 win over Maryland Eastern Shore on Tuesday at JPJ.

Virginia (7-5) had lost four straight coming in, and this one, with an opponent from the MEAC, got out to a rough start for the ACC school.

The Cavaliers shot 2-of-11 from the floor in the second quarter as Maryland Eastern Shore (4-8) climbed into a 33-33 tie at the break.

The first 10-1 run helped the ‘Hoos take a 55-46 lead into the fourth, and the ‘Hoos opened the final stanza on another 10-1 run to put the game away.

Latasha Lattimore had 18 points and a career-high 15 rebounds for Virginia.

Kymora Johnson had 24 points, nine rebounds and six assists.

“I thought it was a great team win. Feels good to get a dub,” UVA coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton said. “I think we had a lot of breakout performances, and I think players stepped up. Obviously, the first half we just had to get over the hump. And now that we did, I think we’ll be on our way.”
