Waynesboro High School’s golf team has reason to celebrate and shared news at Waynesboro School Board’s regular Tuesday meeting.

“I do want to talk about our great season. Our high school team: we finished 4th at districts this year and we also finished 8th at regions. I believe this is the first time we’ve reached regions in 14, 15 years,” said Assistant Coach Mike Priddy Tuesday night.

Priddy said he was proud of the golf team and several members accompanied him to Tuesday’s meeting. He introduced seniors Jackson Darden and Jack Straight.

“When you’re cultivating a team and you’re putting a team together, having strong leadership, especially at that senior level, is so crucial,” Priddy said as he put emphasis on the two golfers. “These two young men have really kind of ushered in a whole new life, I think, for our golf team, so we owe them a heck of a lot.”

He also introduced sophomores Drew Matherly, Jasper McNicholas, Ryan Harlow and Jack Blaylock.

“This gives us our regional team. They have a bright future ahead,” Priddy said. “They put in a lot of hard work. They come to practice every day ready to put the work in.”

Priddy added that he is excited because the students are also great individuals.

“They’re just a great group of guys.”

Waynesboro High School’s golf team is also coached by John Hull.
