Devils Backbone Brewing Co. is honored to sponsor the Amphibious Tractor Association & Memorial through a monetary donation.

The forthcoming memorial at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Quantico, Virginia will honor the Alligator Marines and Amtracs in the center of Memorial Park, and is scheduled to be completed in 2026.

Since World War II, “Alligator Marines” have been the amphibious assault arm of the United States Marine Corps, projecting combat power from ship to shore and then becoming the mechanized assault element transporting the infantry to their objective on land. The memorial will honor the legacy and contributions of the “Alligator Marines” and the machines they operated, called Amtracs.

“The Amphibious Tractor Memorial will pay homage to every generation of Marines who manned all different variants of vehicles, since 1941,” Col. John B. Atkinson, USMC (retired) National Commander, said. “It will also highlight the new Amphibious Combat Vehicles fielded today, along with the Marine Corps’ continued efforts in maintaining forceable entry from the sea capabilities.”

The memorial’s world-class design will serve as a reminder of the Marine Corps’ beautiful history and the sacrifice of so many have made as part of the amphibious community for more than 83 years.

“Veterans hold a very special place in the hearts of our team at Devils Backbone and our Virginia community,” Devils Backbone Co-founder Hayes Humphreys said. “We’re grateful for the service and sacrifice of all “Alligator Marines” and honored to help amplify their story and memory.”

Donation to the Amphibious Tractor Association & Memorial are welcome online.

The Amphibious Tractor (Amtrac) Association is a 501(c)(3) non-profit focused on raising funds to build a memorial at the National Museum of the Marine Corps (NMMC). The memorial will honor Amtrac Marines who manned U.S. Marine Corps Landing and Amphibious Assault Vehicles since 1942. The Association’s mission is to educate the general public and Marines, ensure the legacy of valor endures, recognize and reward exceptional Marines, and support the education and hardship needs of our Marines and their families over time.

Devils Backbone, founded in 2008, is a craft brewery and distillery in Nelson County with locations in Lexington and Charlottesville.
