Mike Scott capped another big night with four free throws in the final 16.8 seconds, and 16th-ranked Virginia held on for a 65-61 win over Clemson Tuesday.

Scott had 23 points and 10 rebounds for Virginia (18-3, 5-2 ACC), and Joe Harris added 19 points for the Cavs, who led by 10 at 56-46 with 6:56 to go on Harris’ fifth three-pointer of the night. But Clemson (11-10, 3-4 ACC) wouldn’t go away quietly, holding Virginia to a lone field goal in the final 6:56.

A Devin Booker three pulled the Tigers to within three at 61-58 with 1:01 to go. After Sammy Zeglinski missed a three with 23 seconds left, Clemson called timeout and ran a play for Andre Young, who missed an open three with 18 seconds left.

Scott rebounded and made both ends of a one-and-one to extend the lead back to five. Tanner Smith drained a stepback three with 13 seconds left to bring Clemson to within two at 63-61. Scott took the inbounds pass into the frontcourt and was fouled with 6.8 seconds to go and made both free throws to seal it for UVa.

Virginia improved dramatically on the boards from Saturday night, when the Cavs were outrebounded by 20 by N.C. State in a 61-60 win in Raleigh. UVa. outrebounded Clemson 31-17.

Booker led Clemson with 16 points.

Virginia shot 55.8 percent from the field while holding Clemson to 40.7 percent shooting on the night.
